It was great how people came forward to help with the Christmas lunch we arranged for the kids and old folks at the home we visited (Persatuan Warga Tua (dan Kanak-kanak) Wilayah Persekutuan).
We brought enough KFC for lunch and dinner, plus chocolate cupcakes AB1 baked specially for them. The funds collected (RM 848.88) was more than what we needed for the lunch, so we bought stationeries for the kids (for the new school term) and groceries and treats.
Just like last year, the kids lined up in a row (yes, the totally unheard of thing in Malaysia - queuing! Go to any warehouse sale and you can see how Malaysians could learn a thing or two from these kids) to wish us Merry Christmas. At first, I wondered why they were in a row, until the kid at the front of the line wished me "Merry Christmas Aunty!" (Yes, yes, we're all in the "Aunty" category now).
We wondered why the kids did not start eating even after they each had their KFC snack plate in front of them, and thought they were probably waiting for us to tell them to start. So we said "Go ahead, eat, eat" only to be told by one of the older kids "We must pray first".
Sugee and I looked at each other and smiled sheepishly.
How often do we remember to say thanks for the food that we eat, for the roof over our heads and for the clothing on our backs, if ever? How often do we say thanks for what we have?
Not often enough. But it's never too late to start.
And with that, I am thankful that my Christmas wish came true. I am thankful that I can do something to bring a little cheer to some kids and old folks. I am thankful that I have generous friends who came forward to contribute towards a good cause.

You are so right. I showed my kids a documentary of kids starving in Africa. Did them a world of good.
Hey Rachel, thanks for dropping.
Sometimes, even adults need to be reminded of how lucky they are. I know that sometimes I do.
